The Austin Pet Expo is organized by Amazing Pet Expos, which currently produces more than 27 pet expos around the country; all of them indoors and free to the general public.
Shorty Rossi, star of ‘Pit Boss’ on Animal Planet and the official spokesperson for Amazing Pet Expos, will be making an appearance with his popular canine sidekick, Hercules. Rossi has a special passion that has been a major part of his life since he was a teenager – championing the cause of pit bulls. When Rossi isn’t managing Shortywood Productions, a company that works with little people in the entertainment industry, or filming ‘Pit Boss,’ he’s working with Shorty’s Pit Bull Rescue, a charity he formed that rescues, rehabilitates and places neglected and abused pit bulls in loving, nurturing homes. Rossi will not only be educating about the myths surrounding Breed Specific Legislation, but he’ll be available for autographs and photos all day.
The Palmer Events Center is located at 900 Barton Springs Rd. Parking is available at the Palmer Parking Garage, adjacent to the facility with two entrances (from Barton Springs Road or Riverside Drive). – 2012 Amazing Pet Expos
Many individuals all across the country will be traveling this summer. For those planning on taking their four legged friends on these trips, it is important to know some basic safety standards about summer travel with your pets.
Many pet owners dread the idea of having to fly with their furry companions. However, there are instances where traveling by plane is necessary. However, there are a few important safety precautions to take. Before flying with your pet will need to get a vet-approved health certificate and find a carrier your pet is comfortable in. Flights will need to be booked far in advance as a limited number of animals are allowed on each flight, and owners will need to arrive an extra hour early for their flight.
If you have a small pet, usually 20 lbs or less, then you can often bring them in-cabin for most flights. When doing this, you will need to have an approved airline carrier that is small enough to fit under the seat in front of you. Those with larger dogs will need to board their animal underneath the plane with luggage. When doing this, one of the most important things to do is to buy the right airline approved carrier with approved bedding inside. You will also need to have a water dispenser in the carrier as well.
Many pet owners will decide to take their pets with them when they make long car trips, as it is more affordable and easier than flying. While driving may have a higher convenience factor, it is still important to keep a few safety precautions in mind. Your furry friend will need frequent breaks for fresh air and water. Many pet owners do not realize how dehydrated their animal can get when sitting in a car for an extended period.
If you are planning on leaving your animal inside the car while you take breaks, limit the time that you leave them alone. Even with the windows cracked, the temperature of a car sitting out in the heat can sky rocket tremendously in just a few minutes! When leaving them in a car, make sure your pets have enough water with them. You can buy small inflatable water bowls that are great for travel and fill with water whenever you need.
To make sure your companion is always well taken care of and prepared for travel, it is important to have the right travel pieces, such as traveling water bowls, dispensers airline approved carriers, and car seats. Fortunately, most of those items can all be found on-line at BarkPlace.com
